I have been reworking my homepage over the past few weeks and have been unpleasantly surprised about the lack of current content. My last video is from 2012 and that was my showreel which consisted of material from my time at the NCCA 2010 – 2011. Is there really nothing to show from the past two years? Well, there are lots of new photos over at my smugmug page (http://www.martinrosenkranz.smugmug.com) but
no new videos (vfx or other) or music.
Something has to be done about that.
I thought maybe a blog would be a good start to keep me focused and share my progress of projects, art and life.
I have not been dead and resurrected, just quiet and busy. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been working as a Compositor at Mackevision Munich with a six week stint for their studio in Detroit. It was a great time, meeting great people, learning a lot of new things a sharpening my skills as a Nuke artist. I worked mainly on configurator systems for that big Bavarian car company. In the summer and after some serious and hard thinking that if I want to grow as an artist I need to move on. So end of August I quit the safety of a full time employment and decided to go freelance again.
Since then I have been working on music, photography and a personal vfx project. .. and I ran my first marathon (The Munich Marathon; came in at 04:10:52. Pretty slow, but, hey.. I am a computer nerd and was a heavy smoker until the end of last year.. so I am pretty happy).
The vfx project in one word…..space. They say don’t do a space scene unless you are George Lucas, but I like breaking the rules. Also I wanted to mess around with Houdini again and experiment with different particle systems in different softwares. I hope to finalize the project in the next few weeks and concentrate on finding commercial projects with studios here in Munich, else the artist will be a starving artist soon.
