This year I am going to run my first race in the UK. It is a matter close to my heart as I am going to be running with my brother and sister. Of course, for us it has to be the Great North Run from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields (13th September 2015). We have strong family ties and history to Newcastle, my brother Paddy lives there and it feels like a second home to me.
This is also going to be my first race for a charity.
I have chosen to raise funds for MIND (www.mind.org.uk), a organization that provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
Running and mental well-being seem to me like two natural companions. Running gives me the time to clear my head, think about life and focus on my goals. I have sufferd through some darker spots of depression in my life and know plenty of other people who have or have had some mental health issues. I want to help MIND support people, raise awareness and give a deeper understanding of mental health problems.
So, please, dear readers, I would be grateful for any kind of donation for this good cause. Even a few pennies will help. My goal is to raise £500 for MIND. You would make me very proud by supporting MIND and me. Please donate here:

As a further personal incentive to give my best I will donate an extra 50 pounds if I don’t achieve my personal goal of running under 1:45:00 (which is a high goal with my best time so far being 1:52:00).
I will posting about my training adventures and other races on the way to the north here, so you know where your money goes and you can be part of my adventure.
Thanks in advance!
M.
